Be a Blessing….

One of the songs from this Sunday’s morning worship stuck with me as it described a bit of what it might mean to be a blessing, to bless those around us, to be a blessing for life….

Let it be said of us, while we walked among the living
Let it be said of us, by the ones we leave behind
Let it be said of us, that we lived to be a blessing for life
Let it be said of us, that we gave to reach the dying
Let it be said of us, by the fruit we leave behind
Let it be said of us, that our legacy is blessing for life

This day, you set life, you set death right before us,
This day every blessing and curse is a choice now
And we will choose to be a blessing for life

Let it be said of us, that our hearts belonged to Jesus
Let it be said of us, that we spoke the words of life
Let it be said of us, that our heritage is blessing for life
(Lyrics by John Waller)

I’m reminded that each day presents us with opportunities to show love, to be a blessing to others, to make choices about how we speak to and how we treat people. Those choices are not made by us alone or by our own power, but by the presence of Jesus in our hearts and in our lives and sharing that with others in word and action is how we can bless others.

Give praise to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing. Those blessings come from the heavenly world. They belong to us because we belong to Christ. Ephesians 1:3

As we go through life, as we walk this journey wherever it may take us, if our hearts belong to Jesus, then that lets us make choices to bless others….to speak well of, to be kind to, to bless those around us. That may be our family, friends, co-workers, or strangers in everyday life situations, but each interaction is a chance to bless others, to show love, to see a little bit of what Jesus sees in each one of us….to speak the words of life…to choose to be a blessing for life…
